Happy Halloween!! a little late

Halloween was fun. I was so focused on getting my costume togheter, though, that when the doorbell rang and there were little kids in costumes my mind was blank about what they wanted...until I realized they were trick-or-treaters. Imagine my horror at being the evil person telling the little kids I had no candy. But inspiration struck, and I stole some Hershey's kisses from Sarah's stash. Whew! To compound things, though, I was half in costume, so I just looked like a crazy lady.

Anyways, I sewed my dress all by myself, and I don't think it even turned otu that bad, really. So here are a few photos, and there are more on flickr. How mean is it that you can't create more than three sets on flickr unless you're a member. Evil.

Have I even told you guys what I'm being? Well, if I haven't, then you'll have to guess. And Sarah was a fire fairy. I'll include a sort of unflattering one so you can see my dress. It looks much better htough hwen the ribbon's actually arranged correctly on it, and not all bunched up like in this photo.

This dress even has a zipper in it. Oooooh! :) This is really for Paula and Erin, who know how little I can sew.

Oh I love happy news

Congratulations, Sam and Susie! Happy news is so wonderful. And I can't wait to meet Susie, she sounds awesome.

And happy anniversary, Ben and Jaime! Obviously I'm cheating, since I just read that it was today on your blog, Jaime. But I still get to say it. Happy anniversary!

Now on to my own self-obsessed life. Anne came to visit this weekend, and I had so much fun with her. We went to the lighthouse, I showed her around campus, went to see Nick in the Diary of Anne Frank, and did a walk-in haircut at the salon I go to. So now I will display the awesome haircuts of both of us on Anne's visit, for those of you who aren't facebook devotees.

Anne likes to take photos with her MacBook. That second photo is jut to illustrate the asymmetry of my hair. But it normally looks much better than that, not poking all out the side. :-P And Anne has a very cute angled bob! with really cute bangs!

Anne's so cute :)This, as you can imagine, was a joke. Entitled "serious photographer."
Long leggedness

I had so much fun with Anne.

Question. The sign up to get graduation photos has just started. Do I want graduation photos? Couldn't we just photoshop me into someone else's graduation gown?

Guess what day today is

Today is hair dyeing day! And I'm going where I've never gone before: BLONDE. I know, I've never in my life wanted to be blonde, but like six months ago or something I got the itch to switch things up a bit beyond normal. But it was fall at the time, and honestly, who wants to be blonde during the winter, so I've waited, and now spring is here, and it's time. Photos to come soon.

I'll be watching Terminator 2 while it sets.

Meanwhile, look at what I finally sat down and learned. Double pointed needles! I can make cool things like socks now.

And Halifax was lovely.

nothing much here

Ben I and Jaime are probably shaking their heads resignedly that it took some of us so long to realize the awesomeness of Obama. And while we're blogging about it they're just like, "Man, we told you this a year ago!" Thanks for not pointing out how long it took me to see it. :) Yay Obama for taking Maine.

I blew the LID off of all Independent Mandy Adventures past, present, and almost (almost) certainly future. However, I don't have time to write about it all right now, since I was supposed to start studying for my midterm ages and ages ago and didn't. And now will probably only invest twenty minutes into it before going to bed. Anyways! More on my independent adventure later.

For now, feast your eyes on my D&D art (more on that later as well):
And I like the path that is beaten across St. Ninian's parking lot through the snow. That's my dorm straight ahead.

A pictorial brain and behavior lab

For my Brain and Behavior class we have a lab once a week where we study a sheep brain. We make various cuts and talk about the structures and functions. Really it's not much of a lab at all. It's short, I never see any of the structures that I'm supposed to, and we just sit around chatting.

Therese really doesn't like having her photo taken. Posing behind a piece of paper was a nice compromise though, I thought.

Darcy and Therese really didn't want to cooperate. So instead there's a stuffed raccoon in the center of this photo. Thanks. :-P
Somehow we got onto the topic of a Sesame Street creature thing. I'll admit, I don't actually have that much Sesame street knowledge. But Darcy and Therese were discussing it, and based on their descriptions, it sounds like they were actually talking about both Honkers and Martians. I did my research. They mentioned a phone sketch and going "yip yip yip," with weird big mouths, which means definitely martians. And then they mentioned noses that honk and weird ears, which means honkers. So Therese drew her Sesame Street creature. Darcy agreed until she drew the ears.

So, honkers + martians = what we were talking about.

Therese masterfully makes another slice. Darcy normally wouldn't want to man up enough to actually touch the brain, but since I wanted to take photos he sacrificed himself.

Brain!

I like this photo.

What happened?

Snow happened!!! And thank you, Ben and Julie, for those snow boots. Instead of walking straight to the computer lab, I trudged all over campus taking photos of pretty much every building. And now you get to suffer through them. Maybe I should start a Photos label...maybe I will, oooh....

Here they are, in no particular order since things got scrambled around when I was uploading them. Sorry to all of you who don't really care what my campus looks like.

unremarkable, I know, but I love this spot

the old chapel, Somers place
Now dance classes and the odd performance are held here
(you can see the chapel in the back)

Geology building!
I have no idea what this is actually used for.

more on campus

So, this is my main academic building. Nicholson Hall, and that's Nicholson Tower, which is connected. You can't tell, 'cause this is the high side of a hill, but it's actually three stories, and this is where the majority of classes are for everyone. Just lots of simple lecture rooms. Just to the right of it and beyond is meal hall, and my dorm is about 25 ft. behind where I was standing as I took this.
This is the psych building!! The Annex. Nicholson is directly to the right. You'll notice the same cracked pavement in both photos. I do have one class in here this year. But mostly it's the psych profs' offices and labs.
The other side of the Annex, so Nicholson is directly to the left here, and the SUB is directly on the right. I like the name the Annex. It's like a level in GoldenEye. Is it a level in GoldenEye?
You can't tell how beautiful this spot is, but it's beautiful. That's the music department on the left, the administrative buildings straight ahead, and meal hall is about five feet behind me.

My room this year

As always, ignore me talking. In fact, maybe you should just listen to it muted. My room is, of course, much messier now. For the first week or so I made my bed every day. Hah.

Okay, since I can't get that movie to work, here are some photos of campus instead. Here we have the library. Buildings directly next to it are...
Meal Hall/Morrison/Moe's. There's a cafe in the back called Mini Moe's.
On the other side of campus are the athletic facilities (they circle around behind where I'm standing as I took this, the hockey rink is what's on the left), and you can see one of the dorms (Governor's/NewNew Res) to the right of it, behind.

This is my first year dorm, MacIsaac. Meal hall is to the left and behind me, and the athletic facilities above are just to the right, barely out of view.

loose ends

Yes, I'm in a new place. A new room, inside a beautiful building, back on campus where adventurous things are going to be happening. But I'm not going to talk about that for now, 'cause I have some loose ends to wrap up.

a) Dad's Treo finally died. Did he replace it with something else? Nope, just another Treo, slightly newer model.

b) Jennie and Dan left behind some Junior Mints. I love Junior Mints. They had melted into the bottom of the box, so I ripped the box off from around them (rather than trying to dig them out), and enjoyed a Junior Mint Block, kind of like a brownie. In the picture, it looks like hardened oreo ice cream. Don't you think?

c) I finished the countertops before I left. Not the grouting, just the tiling. And here is my masterful work. The tile here is still covered in tile residue from me cutting them, so it looks very unclean and grimy. It just needs to be wiped down. So there are now three countertops. Oh, we were missing one piece of tile for the edges, so you see at the very far end on this one that there's a gap.

d) I have a lovely view from my room.
